Automatic or Inspirational Writing |
Keeping a record of all our experiences not only provides us with study notes but also clarifies what we have been, are and will be going through. Our minds need time to take information in understanding the significance of actions and thoughts and bring the reality of our situations to the fore. The act of writing things down makes us think how or what went on. At some time we may be moved to write poems to describe a feeling better. The rhythm of the poem generating a momentum that makes words flow rather than us thinking about them. As if by magic lines can appear on the page almost of their own accord. Perhaps we are using our intuition or remembering words recited as a child. We may also be guided to write these words.
Automatic writing started for me in a similar way. I had from time to time written the odd ode, as I started to put the technique to a more useful purpose of describing my feelings, the words fell out of my pen. I allowed this happen trying not to mentally interfere with the string of words. As I wrote my thoughts and feelings down I began to try to emulate the same technique, almost day dreaming while I was doing it. Appearing to allow my fingers do all the work was fun and it allowed outside influences to act upon them. As soon I was aware of these outside influences, the natural progression was to invite them to act more fully.
I had always written questions to myself because it helped me to focus my mind, some would sit on the open page for hours before I could make a stab at the answer. For me these times of contemplation were private not expecting anyone to be listening or offer an answer. When they did it was a bit of a shock and the recognition of them gave more meaning to them. I knew that the words were being channeled in some way because the energy and style was different. Noticeable there was not a long silence between question and answer. Words that I would not ordinarily use were being written. As the reality of guides became clearer the automatic writing took on its own personality. Each different guide I was using having different words and different ways of putting things. Visually the writing differed each time. My writing is generally a bit scruffy when trying to get ideas down as quickly as possible, however when I was connected and being used as a channel it was strong and positive letters being made more deliberate and for once readable. This was proof enough for me so I started to use the time spent automatic writing to ask questions and getting insights rather than only talking to guides.
There was no set time for automatic writing to start, but when they had something to say the words were taken charge of. A good way to induce the flow was to ask a question, being open to anything that may spring to mind, again once an intention has been made we signal an acceptance that we are willing to participate. Stopping the writing to ask another question or to clarify a point teaches us to have some control. This leads us to block things and only letting through what we want to let through and it is not long before we are told off or the writing stops.
We are learning the techniques that have been practiced for thousands of years so there is never any surprise that we may block ideas that are strange to us or that the ego deems unsuitable for its continued supremacy. We instantly know when the session is finished or we are blocking, words become completely our own, the flow stops and the style can change. It is at this at this point that we learn to see the difference in energies, appreciating the subtleties surrounding us, which in turn validates the experience.
Many people meditate before tuning in for some inspirational words. The act of meditating sends a signal that we are ready and that we have the highest possible motive in mind. As with all forms of channeling protection can be needed if we are unsure that what we are receiving is pure. Just by the act of questioning the validity will bring an instant response, the writing either stops or carries on, very often with a well done or thank you thrown in for good measure from the energy you are working with. Never be offended to ask who is working with you, it shows you are serious and that you care, feeling a strong energy does not necessarily mean that the right one is coming through you. If you think it is wrong for any reason, perhaps the terminology is not specific enough or too specific, they may be waiting for you to point this out to them therefore showing your understanding of the processes going on. Everyone makes mistakes even guides; there may have been a genuine mismatch.
A great advantage of automatic writing is that we can refer to it repeatedly, sucking all the meanings from the help we receive. Predictions are very often made in this form for that very reason, being hidden in allegory or symbolism we have to work to understand their meaning so that we are only made aware of them when we are ready. I always thought this a bit unfair, but as pointed out to me we would become addicted to the sensationalism and miss our path and their points completely, with no backup of our own to fall back on. We may be used as instruments but we are also individuals. As some cycles of our lives span many years accurately remembering all that is given might be difficult, especially as seemingly peripheral issues can be the main meat of the message. A full stop here, a comma there and wham it makes sense.
Straight inspirational prose is very moving and beautiful giving us glorious visions or wonderful smells. Much healing can be received by the mood that it invokes and can act as a catalyst for deep meditation, as we are guided by the imagery of the words. It can also be a precursor to voice channeling as we get used to energy changes and the many idiosyncratic ways of our guides and the way that we work with them.
They say that a picture paints a thousand words. An extension of automatic writing can be painting giving guides an opportunity to get a message across in the same way visualisation does. Having no apparent artistic has no influence on whether or not this will prove to be a useful technique or not. In fact in my experience as an artist it can be a distinct disadvantage because I am always analysing the same way that I would if I were drawing on my own. Blocking the natural flow and arguing about which colour I should use and where to put it. As words fall out of the pen so images can fall out of the placement of colours. A good way to start is to close your eyes and make marks where they seem to be appropriate not being afraid to produce a mess. The freedom that this gives us lets the energy have its way in what we are doing. On opening your eyes images very often jump out at you in the same way that images in a cloud formation appear as if by magic. Turning the picture around reveals other images acting as a trigger to stimulate symbolism.
There is never a wrong way to interpret the symbolism we receive. What feels right for you and what is suggested by an image is the way that you interact with it at that time. There are many meanings put to colours and symbols in dreams as well as in visualisations and paintings. Get to know what things mean what for you. Some will be similar to others interpretations and other wildly different. Always be open to the unusual possible meaning, like looking at an equation backward this can be illuminating. If you prefer to use a set form of symbolism find a style that fits your particular way of thinking and stick to it. The mind then has a framework to use in telling you what you need to know. Guides will also use these symbols giving confidence in what is given and received. With time your knowledge and understanding will increase giving your mind the medium for guides to express complex ideas and patterns as well as help and guidance.
